Art Concepts and Execution

The art concept of our game is based on an abandoned hotel from the 1970's.  I used reference images from hotels during the 1970's.  I used these reference images to build the models while stylizing to fit our theme.  To model and UV  the assets, I used MAYA. MAYA is the industry standard and what we have learned at school. I also used Substance Painter to texturize all of the assets.

Since it's an abandoned hotel, I made the textures look decayed and dirty by applying generator and grunge techniques in Substance Painter. As you can see, all of the assets are very outdated and old, and you can see dust everywhere as well as rust and dirt.

This week I modeled all of the environmental assets for the game entry scenes, which includes five different trees, and an unmarked walkway between the trees, where the game will first take place.  The tools used for modeling the trees were the curve and extrude tools for the trunk. To model the branches, I used the polygon cubes and used the move and extrude tools to finalize them.  Basically, I used different shapes of geometry in MAYA to create all of the assets for the game.

Our decision to implement this type of game is that we thought that this would be a great way to show our skills in styling and modeling different assets for a game. Since our game is extremely visual, showcasing our work would be a great addition to our portfolio.
